Beaching it in Irvine

We knew that by staying at one of the hotels in Irvine that we could stay longer and do more things, because of the money we’d save rather that make reservation at a hotel closer to the beaches. We wanted to head for the beach during the weekend, we thought it would be a beautiful way to bring summer to an end. But, we also knew that most likely, everyone else had the same idea that we had. With the warm weather lingering and a holiday weekend approaching, we thought if we made it down early enough to avoid any parking hassles.

Last weekend, the crowds were so thick that the beach we wanted to go to closed its lot for a couple of hours, so we had to wait in a line until some state guards opened it back up. I’ve never thought I’d be standing in a line to get to go on a beach! Today, were trying another beach, but the same thing might happen, because it’s supposed to be 100 degrees, which is considered very hot for California. For us, coming from Arizona, 100 degrees in the summer is a good day! I checked to local reports about how the surfing will be, and it isn’t expected to be big, which is good for me, since I’m not a good surfer. That’s one reason why we’re here, is so I can practice surfing. But, I’m sure since the surf isn’t expected to be big, most surfers will go else where, which is fine by me, I’d hate to surf around good surfers. Plus, since the waters will be warm, I can leave my wetsuit at my hotel, I won’t need it. The water’s expected to be around 70 degrees.

When we got to Newport beach, early, way early, the sun was barely rising, we set up our little beach site, cooler, umbrella, beach towels and surf boards, we headed straight for the ocean. The waves were small and the water wasn’t to cold. We swam out to where we could catch some waves. I picked Newport, because the surf report also mentioned that if we went to Seal Beach we would run into some stingrays right at the surf line. And there was a surf contest happening in Huntington Beach. So, Newport was our best bet. By the end of the day, we were exhausted, but so happy we came early, because the beach did fill up. We decided to hang around until night and check out the fire rings. What a great day and night!
