Choosing the Best Window Coverings is Easy at Next Day Blinds

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Shades and blinds are options that provide you with the contemporary way to update and modernize your home.  There are many different sizes and colors, many different varieties in style and construction, so there is always something that will be perfect for you when you take a look through the inventory at Next Day Blinds.  If your working with smaller rooms and windows, mini blinds are a great addition, creating still the privacy from the outside world, but not overwhelming the smaller spaces.  And while there are many different materials to choose from, such as wood, bamboo, vinyl and aluminum, but what is suggested for the humid environments of a smaller bathroom, the vinyl blinds are recommended as they are so easy to clean.  These are also a great choice for the kitchen as well.

At www.nextdayblinds.com, reviews of the blind made from other materials, installed in these two rooms of your house, have led them to recommend the vinyl, and customers are satisfied time and again.  You may choose to put vinyl blinds throughout your house, for the ease of cleaning them as well as the resistance to the sun and the damage than can be caused by other blinds by the light.  For the larger rooms, consider blinds made with larger slats and these are simply more durable.

The great aspect of having so many choices is that you can combine similar looks, putting in metal blinds for rooms with wrought iron furniture or fixtures, as well as a large variety of those made from wood, going perfectly again with wooden chairs and tables, as well as just fine with the darker leathers.  The design specialists and the sales team at Next Day Blinds is always ready to answer your questions and offer their suggestions, which will make these decisions a bit easier to make.  You will be happy when you choose to shop for your new window treatments and you will be well taken care of in the process.

Li Chen: Zen Mind, Singapore Mind

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

This island city state is without question one of the hippest places in the world to travel these days.  It’s always a step or two ahead when it comes to fashion and culture, and coming here can feel like taking a peek into the near future.  It’s also a splendid metropolis, and on any given day there are many opportunities for exciting adventures.  If you like art and shopping even a little, Singapore will speak to you in welcome ways.  Luxury is no stranger here, and those travelers who like to experience the height of comfort will find a magnificent array of 5 star Singapore accommodations.  It’s lovely to be able to stay in style, especially in a place that already has so much style.

Waking up to sumptuous furnishings is always a lovely way to begin any day.  It’s even lovelier when you’re on vacation, and have nothing important planned.  You can perhaps take a ride in the country, and spend your sleepy hours thinking about where you are, and where you’re going.  Thinking about daydreaming is also lovely, but better still to be doing it, and in Singapore, there’s opportunity to daydream about daydreaming, and the best local art can make you conscious that you’re in the act of daydreaming without pulling you out of it.  It’s a difficult balance.  Li Chen, student of Zen Buddhism, and Chinese artist, can pull it off occasionally, and splendidly.

His first large-scale exhibition, Mind.Body.Spirit. had a show at the Singapore Art Museum, and you could see many of his amazing works on display in outdoor spaces.  It is a stunning body of work, and its magnificence can really only be seen in nature, where the grandeur of the work should by any standards be dwarfed by the grandeur of nature.  But it somehow does not get smaller, nor does it seem larger, but it balances, in an absolutely stunning way.  The shapes of the large, bronze Buddhas become part of the fabric of all things, and that line between the visible and the spirit realms get crossed, and then the art starts to speak new languages.

Social Responsibility and Hot Tubs

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Having a hot tub in your own home is like a doorway to luxury, and it’s open to you whenever you like.  There’s a splendid sense of solitude that your own personal spa has to offer you, giving you the time to free your mind of all extraneous thoughts, and just enjoy the feeling of the water.  It’s a novel feeling, and it never gets old, and in fact even gets better the more often you use it.  It’s also good for the body, too, where the relaxing jets can soothe tired limbs and muscles, helping the heart to do its work, and making it easier to relax into the moment at hand.  There are so many spectacular benefits to having a hot tub, that it’s an investment that will pay off over and over again.

There are many excellent places to find hot tubs in the U.S., and it’s a wonderful thing to have so many choices.  However, for its record of excellent customer service and satisfaction, it seems only logical to choose the site, choosehottubsdirect.com.  They have a marvelous array of splendid choices, and you’ll find something to suit your taste and sensibility.  There are varieties of styles, from the intimate two-person hot tub to a swimming pool size for aerobic exercise, or large parties.  Any size can be used for entertaining, and it’s becoming a tradition here to have a barbecue grill close by, so that entertaining for dinner becomes easy and almost mindless.  There are also varieties of styles, and many exciting extras, like decorative lighting, television and sound systems.  Shopping with them is a pleasure, too, and their personal attention is fast and efficient.

But perhaps even more appealing, there is a sense of conscience with Hot Tubs Direct.  Having donated portions of their profits to benefit victims of Hurrican Ike, they are connected to the local community, and the world community at large.  It’s a pleasure to have a personal spa, where your access to luxurious relaxation is always open, and it’s also a pleasure to be able to contribute to charitable causes.  It’s a pleasure, then, to work with a company who really does practice business with a sense of greater responsibility, and this makes the luxury even sweeter.

Charter Jet Empty Leg Offers

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

A good percentage of the time, private jets fly without any passengers on board. They usually drop one client at a destination point and pick up the next client at a different point. That distance could be as short a hop like Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. It can also be a larger distance, like Los Angeles to New York. These flight, which have no passengers, are what the industry refers to as ‘Empty Legs‘.

Empty Legs syndrome is usually not an offer made by most local charter companies. But, a charter jet, or private jet do offer Empty Leg when available to their clients at a point A to point B price and sometimes at a less expensive rate. The most common routes for Empty Legs are flights from coast to coast, like New York to Los Angeles and from Los Angeles to New York. Or from northern parts of the country to southern parts of the country, like Miami to New York.

Don’t confuse Empty Leg with any one way offer or a fixed hourly program rate. These programs and similar programs only claim to offer a true one-way price, but the fact is that a one-way trip from Miami to New York, say with a 25 hour card program, can cost you up to $13,000 or a little bit less if you have a fixed hourly program. An Empty Leg will go for around $9,000 or less.

Our approach to treating people the way they should be treated has only enhanced our growth. We have legions of satisfied and happy clients. Clients that will refer their friends and their family members to use our services. Our way of doing business is gaining a loyal customer base that tells us that people are now, more than ever, looking for value.

Portland Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Casey had always been attracted to the Pacific North West and had visited Seattle multiple times and had been to Portland only once. However, he felt more of a natural affinity toward Portland and had always planned on returning. That was the main reason that he quickly offered his hand in response to his supervisor asking for volunteers to go on a business related trip to Portland. Everyone in the room looked at Casey as if he had lost his mind or was trying to be the boss’s pet. Only Cheryl, one of his co-workers suspected the reason. She knew Casey loved Portland and being from there the two of them had quite a few conversations about it.

Most of the staff in Casey’s company did not enjoy going on business trips. It wasn’t that none of them enjoyed traveling, but they rarely had time for anything other than meetings and projects and they all found the whole thing tedious, Casey included. This time was much different however and he could hardly wait to pack his bags and settle into his room in one of the best hotels in Portland.

Before he left, Cheryl told him some places he had to visit and sights to see. One of these was to visit the ocean if he had some time to do so. She claimed that the Oregon coastline was beautiful and should not be missed. However, he shouldn’t plan on swimming, just bring a cup of coffee and enjoy the view. Casey would have liked to do just that, however he was more concerned about getting tickets to a Trailblazer’s basketball game. The other thing he really wanted to do was left over from his one previous trip. He had heard the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry was high quality and Cheryl recommended he see one of the shows in the Planetarium. This is definitely going to be a great business trip.

Tan Surreal in Singapore

Friday, November 20th, 2009

It’s constantly revealing itself in new and splendid ways, and Singapore’s been growing in culture and art for a number of years now.  This island city state is one of the more savvy places in the world for world culture, and has a cosmopolitan sensibility that tends to embrace the global.  There are a surprising number of citizens who go to events regularly, and there are many pockets of new cultures that seem to spontaneously erupt all the time.  It’s a fantastic place to visit, and whether the stay here has a packed itinerary, or if there’s more than ample down time, there are plenty of opportunities to experience the culture, because sometimes it happens in the streets, right before your eyes.

It has a very pleasing sensibility, and one that is very much boosted when you have the chance to stay here in luxury.  Singapore business hotels are very classy, and reflect the aesthetics of the area.  There is a brilliant combination of the old and the new, to put you in the seat of contemporary conveniences, while also appealing to your sense of classical style.  You’ll notice these things as soon as you wake in the morning, and find it easy to get yourself ready for the first meeting of the day.  While you’re on your way, you may want to keep an eye out for the places that catch your eye, so that you can follow your nose later on when you have a moment.

There’s a touch of the surreal in the generally accessible works at the Eagle Eye Gallery, even though they also act as a supplier and consultancy firm for government agencies, and something here might surely catch the eye of the awakened visitor.  Some of the artists, like Michael Tan create works with immediate visual appeal, but something much more beckoning lies just beneath the surface.  Tan’s obsessions begin with Malaysia, as well as cats, and from there great dreams are put to canvas.

The North Carolina Lexington BBQ Festival: Do You Have What it Takes?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

So, you are ready to take your skills you have gained by the hours spent hovering over your built in BBQ to the next level, the BBQ festival and competition circuit.  This is a great step to choose to make, for not only will you get your own signature dishes out to the masses, you will encounter other BBQ chefs, and you may learn new recipes, new ways of spicing up your own creations.  One of the best of the best is the Lexington BBQ Festival in North Carolina.  The festival is a community event that has grown in popularity exponentially over the years, becoming the city’s most attended celebrations.  And so it should be, because BBQ is good, BBQ fills up not only your belly, but all of your senses.

From the sights, to the scents, to the sounds of the chefs preparing the meals, to the taste and to the feel of licking your fingers to get every last bit of flavor this is one fine way to spend the day.  Each year at the end of October, BBQ chefs from around the country show up and deliver.  This past year marked the 26th anniversary of the festival, and now October is the official “Month of the Barbecue”.  BBQ is a big deal.  Throughout the month there are various events, some not even related to cooking and eating, such as the biking event, “Tour de Pig”.  All the proceeds from this event are given to the Mental Health Association in the city.  There are also events such as the 5K Hawg Run, and golf and tennis tournaments.

When this festival began in 1984, just about thirty thousand people attended, and by 1994 that number had grown to over one hundred thousand.  Now, not only is it a food oriented event, but a musical and artistic celebration as well which draws people not only from the state of North Carolina, but from all of the states in the country.  So many non-profit and community services have gained the benefits of this festival, as it is one festival that just keeps on giving, from the days of the festival and those beyond.  So refine your backyard skills, and head out next year to the festival in North Carolina.  You will be amazed, you will have fun, you will never forget it.

Washington Monument in DC Inspires Young Lawyer

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Bill always loved social studies and political sciences while he was in high school and even as far back in elementary school as he could remember. As he sat on the plane destined for Washington DC he remembered his favorite high school teacher. That was not only a significant year for Bill, but Mr. Brownstone also played a major role in his life choice decisions. Bill was very interested in pursing a career in constitutional law, and had been dismayed by almost everyone he came in contact with and was repeatedly pushed in the direct of criminal law. It was Mr. Brownstone alone that convinced him that following his own path and pursuing his own passions and ambitions was far more important than statistical practicality in the ultimate goal of life satisfaction, which Mr. Brownstone considered to be of paramount importance when pursing a law career of any kind.

So, there he sat drinking his complimentary coca cola and browsing through the Washington Post as the plane made its final descent into Bill’s new home. He had just recently received news that he landed his first job in a real DC firm and his career was actually getting started. As soon as he checked into his room in one of the luxury hotels DC Bill, almost instinctively, headed straight to the National Mall and the Washington Monument. He wasn’t sure why, perhaps he wanted to imbed that iconic obelisk into him memory of this important moment in his life. Symbolically he could look back at this significant moment and it was almost comforting to feel the support of this huge monument. And although he had not ambition to serve as president, he did honor the fact that the monument was built for the first US President, George Washington and he did have intentions to work with the presidential office. He felt it was a great privilege to be a part of the governmental operations of this great country and almost felt a tear in his eye as he looked up at the world’s largest stone sculpture.

Pomegranada

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

The pomegranate is one of the most symbolic fruits in all of world literature and art.  It’s beautiful and durable red skin opens to gorgeous yellow flesh and bright ruby red seeds, evoking sensations of promise, ecstasy, and even wisdom.  It’s a fruit that is almost embarrassing in it sensuality, with a delicious juice that is said to have healing powers, and certainly heals a broken heart or a bad mood.  Eating one takes commitment, as well as certainty, and no small degree of boldness, because this is messy business.  It’s certainly worth the stains, and certainly worth every bit of trouble, but very few fruits ask for the same amount of work, nor give the same amount of juice, as the mythical pomegranate.

It’s certainly fitting that the symbol for the city of Granada is the very same pomegranate.  There is a deep sensuality about the place, high in altitude and still close to the coast, with a rich history that accompanies a rich land.  It’s one of the most gorgeous places in the world, and deep enough inland that it’s still well hid, like the fruit inside the red skin.  This is a spectacular place for luxury hotels.  Granada holds nothing back, doing everything with style and finesse, and the accommodations are spectacular.    A marvelous blend of the old and the new, the city speaks to contemporary obsessions as well as to the ancient obsessions, and perhaps these haven’t changed very much over time.

The idea of the pomegranate as a secret to desire, eternal life, wisdom, and health, is not particular to Granada, but it’s certainly a good place to get to know its history and symbolism.  It occurs in every religion in the regions where the fruit grows.  In Jewish tradition, it has 613 seeds to represent the verses of the Torah.  In Judeo-Christian mythologies it is the fruit of knowledge from the garden of Eden.  In Islam, this is the fruit of paradise.  In Hindu cosmology, it is in the hands of many goddesses and gods and represents fertility.  The list goes on.  Of course, it’s also one of the healthiest fruits one can find, and people are rediscovering the health benefits of the pomegranate.  Come to Granada to see for yourself, and maybe taste some of the fruits of wisdom.

Airport hotel

Monday, November 16th, 2009

A few years ago, a friend and I, with a little extra time and cash on hand, decided we’d take a trip to New Orleans.  It was a place I’d never been and had passed up a trip to it almost ten years before that, so I was ready to go.  We made reservations at a hotel near the French Quarter, for the day after Christmas and then several days afterwards, leading up to New Year’s.  Prices for a hotel on Boxing Day, December 26th are extremely reasonable; however, they double and triple once you hit the day before New Year’s.  We were going to travel separately, and, because I didn’t have a family, I decided to travel on Christmas Day and arrive first.  I was hoping I’d arrive in time to take in a Christmas Mass in New Orleans, but trouble started when my flight stopped in Houston and an ice storm swept over the area, forcing me to interrupt my trip and stay at a nearby airport hotel.

Living in the Southwest for most of my life, I never thought I’d be one of those people who faced the prospect of staying overnight in a crowded terminal, desperately hoping to catch the next flight, but when they made the announcement that the flights were cancelled, I knew that was exactly what might happen if I couldn’t get a reservation.  Fortunately, an airline representative took pity on me and helped me out with a voucher, so the stay happened to be free.  But I would have paid for the quality room and the convenience.  It was already ten in the evening by the time we reached the hotel, and all the passengers had to be back at six thirty a.m., for the half hour or so flight to New Orleans.  That meant we had to return around four-thirty a.m., because we were all on stand-by.  I was really grateful the hotel was so close to the terminal a few hours later!

Once we were onboard and the plane was de-iced, we took off for New Orleans and it felt as if we landed almost before I had the chance to fasten my seatbelt.  Turned out that my friend’s flight was delayed, too, and that he had the reservations for the hotel, which meant I had to kill several hours wandering the streets of the French Quarter.  Even though it was a cold day, I was freshly rested, had a coat and a book and a new city to explore.  I started off to Jackson Square first.  I didn’t mind at all.
